We finally got a proper domain name for Objective Modula-2 at

http://objective.modula2.net

For now this just redirects to the existing page. Eventually, this
should become its own site. In any event, the above URL is to be
considered the official, permanent link.

The new website is now available at the new domain

http://objective.modula2.net

The previous URL is being redirected to the new URL. However, anybody
who may have a link on their website pointing to the old URL, please
would you change it to the new one, thank you.

For now, the content itself has not changed much, mostly rearranged
only, but there will be some updates soon. We also need to get a new
background for the site banner.

that is very odd, I have asked a number of people around the globe to
check the site and nobody got a 404. Maybe you could try again and
post the exact time (and GMT offset) so our webmaster can take a look
at the log file to find a matching entry and see what it says.

It's been unavailable for about eight or nine hours now, that I know of
(it's Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 18:23:38 UTC as I type this).

I have had a response from the webmaster on this now. I have also
checked with Terry Ross directly and he said that there wasn't
actually a period of eight hours where the page was unavailable but
instead he checked before he went to bed and hit reload when he got up
again in the morning.

Anyway, the there were two or three accesses which coincided with
edits and it seems that the server locked the index file at that time
and returned a 404. The earlier attempt by Rob could have been a
result of DNS records not having propagated at that time and he might
have been hitting the previous site parking host at the domain
registrar which would already have removed its parking entry for the
domain.

Also, if anybody was trying to access the site with a very old browser
like IE3 or IE4, it would have tried to send a broken-browser page
back but that page had not yet been copied over from the former host
site.

hope this clarifies

Rob, would you mind visiting the #modula-2 channel on irc.freenode.net
so we can debug this interactively? Otherwise I can turn off the
filter on the gmail so you can contact me there, but I think
interactive would be best.

no idea how to do this
- Fetch an irc client.
+ google for irc client, perhaps adding as a keyword your OS
+ download one, install it
- Run your irc client
- choose a nickname,
- connect to irc.freenode.net,
- join the #modula-2 channel.

The last two may be dependent on your irc client, notably if there's
some GUI to do that. In classical irc clients, you'd type:
/nick your-nickname RET
/server irc.freenode.net RET
/join #modula-2 RET
